Are you kidding me? Well, so much for this Dr.
What kind of stone can i use? And does it need sand in the bottom?
How deep is the mantel? 6"? 9"?
Terry that mantle is 9" deep. Thanks for watching.
Goobers💯💯💯
So stupid
How do I clean it? Can I use my power washer or surface cleaner?
Andrew you can use a power washer but not too much pressure and always on a fan setting. My advice on cleaning anything outdoors that needs a seasonal clean up from mold, mildew and weathering is to use a biodegradable cleaner like a powedered OXY Clean or Simple Green and follow directions on the product. These products can easily be washed away onto your grass or planting areas and not cause any damage. Good luck with the cleaning.
Great looking product fellas!
Thanks Frank. Bluestone is a staple in the business and can be used so many ways.
If you guys EVER need ledge let me know, I got plenty of it!
Derek has always patiently and freely taught me the tricks of the art that resides within him. It is literally a well of knowledge. Thank you and God bless your life Derek.
I’ll do a bakers dozen of the Rocky Mountain gold
Your first bakers dozen are still here at the quarry waiting for pick up, Mr. Marsico.
Boooo attention seeking waste of time
Great video! What size cobbles were used on this job?
Ben these were 4" Jumbo Cobblestone. We have used 3" thick as well. Thanks for watching and for the feedback.
Ffs get tomthe point
Useless bunch of wankers
Is it possible to buy a. Few?
Yes
@@DeanandDerek wonderful. I don’t need to buy the whole pallet? I could buy fifty bricks?
All our brick are solid individually. You can buy whatever quantity you need. Thanks for checking out our UA-cam page. @@sheilaterranovabeasley1966
Waste of time
If it’s veneer it doesn’t matter how far your mantle runs
Just our recommendation that the mantle does not run the whole way so the top and bottom of the fireplace aren't connected. Personal choice. We think it looks better. Thanks for watching.
I agree with this advice on the stone work, this was done well. I’ve been doing masonry for 19 years, my oldest brother for 30, my grandfather and his father were masons.
As a 2nd generation stone mason your compliment coming from a 3rd generation mason is much appreciated. Dean and I respect the craft and like you it is family learned. Thanks for checking out this project.
We stared using that install . But I realized water can easy flow under pavers one thing to think about if patio ends on an adjacent Hill.
Good point. True that when you use these crushed stone bases they attract water and it needs to move through and away. A good thought about an adjacent hill is to intercept that water with a french drain or something of that a nature to direct excessive water. Thanks for watching.
Do you have to cut any of the stones? Or simply fit them?
Jason you may need to cut some stones depending on the look, you’re trying to create. For example, how tight you would like to get the joint between the stones. And also if you have an area where you just can’t seem to find the right size stone. Most of it is training your eye to fit pieces together with the tips. We gave you in the video. Thanks for checking it out.
@@DeanandDerek I figured. Just wanted to make sure so I can justify buying the saw
I love this look
We agree. Yankee is an interesting mix of fieldstone and granite. Lots of color and texture. Thanks for checking it out.
No need for a fabric? Works for me😊
Very cool! There's a beautiful example of this stone at 82 Broad St in Weymouth which I think is an old fire house (as well as some more recent work done where the doors were once located which doesn't match the original but is close). Nearby at 103 Washington St, I believe the old Post Office building is Weymouth granite as well. My great grandfather once had an office 105 Pleasant St in Weymouth which also features Weymouth granite.
Alex, you are correct about both of those locations. Yes, Weymouth granite was used there as well as with other churches in the local area. It’s funny how you mention the recent work doesn’t match where the doors used to be in the fire house. I remember when that was going on and I so wanted to get the job to make it blend better. Anyway, thanks for checking it out Alex and we appreciate the comment.
Pretty sharp fellas!
Thanks Frank. We think it’s gonna be a great asset for 2024. Happy new year.
@@DeanandDerek Definitely will be, Happy new year to you all as well!
You can still use a resin based sand that is for wet applications. To prevent weeds and or insect erosion. Nitro a product of Alliance Gator

Beautiful.
Why is it a mistake to have the line in the middle?
Because the fireplace is centered and symmetrical you don’t want a Middle joint in the middle of the top of the fireplace. Do you want a stone that centers it. When there’s a joint in the middle what it does a separate the look. It’s just the way we were taught. But it doesn’t make sense when you want the beauty of the stone to show off. Thanks for the question.
Waste of time
Such a professional look g camera for such poor results.
But you still can’t activate the sand in the rain
Ingrown hair... 🤦 Ppl make anything for 👍
What was the purpose of this video? The tiny zit wasn’t even popped?! 🤷♀️
Thank-you for your comment. Saved me from watching nothing. 👍
2” of sub base too little for DG?
These guys are a hoot !
How much does it cost?
Beth cost varies on who is building and accessibility of the fireplace. This specific stone costs $18.50 a sq ft for flats and corners are $25.40 a lf. Labor is the variable here. Thanks for checking out our video.
Looks like my ex wife
Is this the smooth Sahara Desert Lite?
Pam, this is a gas fireplace surrounded by stone veneer. Most gas fireplace units cost around $5000 for installation and unit but there are so many different types that that pricing can change as well. This type of the cathedral fireplace stone job can range anywhere just for the stonework and the structure behind it built by a carpenter, and then surrounded by cement board… This can range anywhere from $80-$110 a square foot. Keep in mind the fireplace like this coming off. The walls means that you have exposed corners and that adds to the price. It all depends on where you are in the country and cost of local materials as well. And thanks for the comment and checking out our video and good luck with your fireplace.
This is beautiful. Can you give an idea of cost to build a fireplace exactly like this in a home with no existing fieplace or chimney?
One sided depends, maybe 75k
Two things: 1) what do you use in the joints? 2) is the .25” chip/1a (that’s what it looks like I can get around here) compacted (as I have already screeded, compacted here on my project). Thanks.
Hey, sorry we didn’t get back to your questions. Yes you would use polymeric sand in the joints. And also for the quarter inch chip stone or any small aggregate for the screeded setting bed you do not have to compact that. If you’re using concrete pavers you would compact those and then spread the polymeric sand, compact it and then spread it one more time before you activate it. Thanks for checking out the video and again sorry for the late response.
I used a plate compactor with a supposedly soft plastic bottom to compact my pavers into the bedding sand. Unfortunately, some pavers broke. What could cause this? I packed before adding poly sand@@DeanandDerek
What are pipes for?
Screeding/leveling
How many mm is stones like that I want to ask my quarry people
This looks amazing! Where did you get the stones?
Love it
I thought you would like that Sean. Every once in a while, we get a job that challenges us and we get to get back to our craft. I appreciate the comment.
Been doing it this way for years
Une jam mjeshter i gurit guri me pelqen se eshte i bukuri
Nice job. Where did you get such large cobbles?
Would you recommend this bass for a one and 1/8 inch natural travertine paver? Thanks for the info
Not on something that thin. You need a cushion cause any sharp edge of a rock is gonna make it crack. I’d do a 3/4 angular base then fabric then 1” of sand. Sand will stay in the fabric instead of settling through the gravel
@@christophercasey8833 too late. Lol. I went with the 1/4” clear bluestone as a setting bed because I really like the additional drainage, and it worked out well. There are a few stones that wobble a bit that I will probably have to pop out and reset.
1/4 inch chop stone. That does not look anything like 1/4 inch.
